Our work with young people – both to inspire them and to encourage their connection to the performing arts – is an important branch of our activity. Yes, it’s about the aspiration of ensuring opera as an art form continues to thrive in the future, but it’s also far simpler than that. It’s about making opera accessible, fascinating and relevant.
Operatic storylines are often blood-thirsty and unpleasant tales, married with plethora of great tunes; so what’s not to make a 10 year old sit up and listen!
Our work with young people extends to providing performing opportunities for young professionals through our Young Artist programme. While there is the glamour of the stage, there are also so many roles to ensure the opera season goes smoothly, and we regularly have students join us for work experience during the summer months.
