The 2019 summer school was designed for those aged 8-18 with an interest in music, dance and theatre.
Across a number of rehearsals, and finishing with a performance in the grounds of Longborough Festival Opera, students developed choral, vocal and performance techniques with professionals from our production, education and creative teams.
The summer school was an exciting mix of singing, improvisation, language, movement and dance sessions led by opera singers, set designers, make-up designers and choreographers from the world of theatre and opera. Students embarked on a journey into the underworld with Orpheus and his cronies - with a production loosely based on Offenbach’s famous opera, Orpheus in the Underworld - culminating in a riotous rendition of the Can Can. Students also attended a private rehearsal of one of the operas at Longborough, witnessing first-hand what happens behind the scenes of a working opera house.
