Due to the change in government guidelines we are pleased to release additional capacity in our Big Top for all performances of The Cunning Little Vixen.
This change means that our venue will no longer be socially distanced after 19 July. The venue is well ventilated and is classed as an outdoor space, with a capacity of around 50% of our normal theatre. With the safety and respect of our staff, artists and audience in mind, we will continue to expect face coverings to be worn when not outside.
A vixen cub strays across a forester’s path, and is captured and taken to his home. She makes her escape, and begins her adventures in the wild.
With its juxtaposition of humans and animals, The Cunning Little Vixen shifts from the comic world of everyday village life into the mystical cycle of nature. Conducted by Justin Brown, the current Music Director of Karlsruhe State Theatre, and directed by Olivia Fuchs, this new production will showcase Longborough’s vibrant Emerging Artists, and the Longborough Youth Chorus made up of local children.
We created a short film with the children of Longborough primary school, and the Longborough Youth Chorus - who would have performed in the 2020 production, and instead have contributed as artists and singers. Watch here >

The Times
For three of our productions in 2021 – Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Monteverdi’s The Return of Ulysses, and Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen – we’ll be introducing a new venue to the festival: the Big Top.
This indoor/outdoor space offers different and exciting theatrical possibilities for our creative teams. We can’t wait to see what they come up with to draw you into the worlds of these operas.
Seating in the Big Top will not be socially distanced after 19 July. The venue is well ventilated and is classed as an outdoor space, with a capacity of around 50% of our normal theatre. With the safety and respect of our staff, artists and audience in mind, we will continue to expect face coverings to be worn when not outside.
