Exclusive Event for Wagner Club Members - Wesendonck-Lieder with Anthony Negus and Emma Bell

The Wesendonck-Lieder, or Wesendonck songs, represent a very personal side of Wagner’s life. Written in 1857 when he had abandoned Siegfried and was starting to composeTristan und Isolde. They were not originally intended for publication, having been composed privately in response to the texts of his Muse, Mathilde Wesendonck; however, commercial considerations took over.

At this special event, you will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the fascinating history of these five songs, including their link to Tristan und Isolde and explore the emotions at the heart of the music. Our Wagner Club President and Music Director, Anthony Negus will be joined by accomplished Soprano Emma Bell, who joined us at Longborough for the 2024 Ring Cycle, playing Sieglinde.

Commenting on this special event, Wagner Club President Anthony Negus said:

“I love working with Emma Bell, whom I first knew at Welsh National Opera, before working with her on Sieglinde for English National Opera, where I conducted a performance of The Valkyrie in 2021. I was thrilled that she became our Sieglinde for the Longborough Ring Cycle last year. She is a wonderful artist, and I am delighted she is performing these beautiful songs with me for the LFO Wagner Club.”

Tickets for the event are £100 per person. To book this or to find out more about the Wagner Club, please contact Gill Powell, Head of Membership and Philanthropy, gill@lfo.org.uk.
