William Byram

Movement Director

William Byram (they/he) is an American director and choreographer based in London. Having just finished two seasons as staff director for English Touring Opera, William’s background as a classical and contemporary dancer has enabled him to become an emerging specialist in opera. Recent engagements as Director include La Traviata, Hänsel und GretelPortrait of a Prima DonnaDie Fledermaus (Salon Opera); the first revival of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Dream Lovers (Stanley Arts). 

As Movement Director: Lucia di Lammermoor (Opera Holland Park); Rigoletto, Madama Butterfly (Dorset Opera); Alcina (Guildhall); Die Fledermaus (St Pauls Opera); La Traviata (Instant Opera); The Merry Widow (Opéra de Baugé). 

As Assistant Director: The Gondoliers, Pagliacci, The Rape of Lucretia, The Elixir of Love (English Touring Opera); Die Fledermaus (Grange Festival); A Star Next to the Moon (Guildhall Opera).

Upcoming engagements include movement on L’elisir d’amore (Dorset Opera) and will be directing the European premiere of Gregory Spears’ Paul's Case. 

William trained at Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase, Trinity Laban and the Guildhall School of Music. He was the recipient of the US-UK Postgraduate Fulbright Award. He currently lectures at the Royal Academy of Music & Trinity Laban and will be published in the upcoming Oxford Handbook of Ballet Pedagogy.
