Wayne Dowdeswell

Lighting Designer

Wayne trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He spent several seasons with Contact Theatre, Manchester, before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company where he lit many productions for The Other Place, The Pit and Barbican Theatres. Designs for opera include Eugene Onegin, Rinaldo, Madama Butterfly (Grange Park Opera); The Mikado (D’Oyly Carte, Savoy Theatre); and Lucia di Lammermoor (Scottish Opera and Mariinsky, St. Petersburg).

His numerous designs for theatre include: The Cherry Orchard, Tamburlaine the Great, Edward II, The Roman Actor, The Island Princess, The Malcontent, The Tamer Tamed, Sejanus, The Canterbury Tales (RSC); Medea (Wyndham’s and NY); The Birthday Party, Not the End of the World (Bristol Old Vic); and Private Lives, Duet for One (Bolton Octagon); The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Whisky Galore!, Lady in the Van (Pitlochry Festival Theatre); Dr Faustus, School for Scandal, Volpone, Duchess of Malfi (Stage on Screen); and Private Peaceful (Scamp, UK tour).
