Steven Player

Forty years ago after studying Fine Art, Steven had the good fortune to meet Mary Collins and be one of the few young men interested in Pavanes , Galliards and Balletti and to be able to dance them, performing with Mary on an early Music Network Tour of the UK.

After further study at the Royal College of Music he has performed with many leading European and American orchestras . Touring internationally with “The Harp Consort”, Apollos Fire, The London Handel Players, and more.

Throughout his career he has danced, strummed and acted on the world's stages, tables and streets being critically acclaimed as “ a consummate Jack of All trades” and “a genuine Oddball”, amongst other things.

His main focus now is to encourage the understanding of the relevance of dance in the performance of Renaissance and Baroque music and to inspire musicians and dancers to change preconceived notions of performance practice.

These ideals are exemplified in his performances with Bjarte Eike and Barokksolistene in their successful ‘Alehouse Sessions’ which pushes the performers to interact with each other and the audience in a vital and truthful entertainment.
