Indonesian tenor Satriya Krisna began his musical studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2012, after obtaining a degree in Architecture. He obtained his Music BA in 2015, and completed his Masters’ in 2017 under the tutelage of Henny Yana Diemer and his repetiteur, Jan-Paul Grijpink. A year after he graduated from the National Opera Studio London as part of the Young Artists Program 2017/2018.
He sang his first role in 2013 as Sporting Life in Porgy and Bess with Studio 32, with the Gelders Orkest and Phillips Symphony Orchestra in the Grachtenfestival 2013, and at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with the Philips Symphony Orchestra in 2014. His first professional role was as cover Moenen in Opera2day’s Mariken in de Tuin der Lusten by Calliope Tsoupaki (2015). He then began working at the Dutch National Opera as part of the “young opera talent” ensemble, covering Lurcanio and Odoardo in Handel’s Ariodante. Since November 2016, he has sung with de Nederlandse Reisopera in several concerts as part of their Young Singers’ Programme.
He won Third Prize, the Audience Prize and the Student Jury‘s Prize at the International Student Lied Duo Competition 2017 with duo pianist, Felix Justin. Satriya won a scholarship to attend the Verbier Festival Academy, where he performed Klave in Salomé (cond. Charles Dutoit) and Triquet in Eugene Onegin (cond. Stanislav Kochanovsky) and engaged in the Lied programme with tutors including Thomas Hampson, Thomas Allen and Thomas Quasthoff. Concert engagements have included Mozart’s Requiem, Bach Cantatas and Rheinberger’s Requiem in the Netherlands. In September 2017, Satriya was a semi-finalist in the 51st International Voice Competition’s-Hertogenbosh and won the Judges’ Discretionary Prize at Fulham Opera’s Robert Presley Memorial Verdi Prize 2017. Satriya is also one of the bursary recipients of the Opera Awards Foundation 2018/2019. In February 2019 he became part of Samling Artists Programme a week training under direction of Yvonne Kenny, Malcom Martineau and Alex Hassel (Netflix Cowboy Bebop).
He joined the Georg Solti Accademia 2018 in Castiglione del Pescaia, Italy. He then played a role as Le Mari in Poulenc Mamelle de Tirésias as part of Les Azuriales’ Young Artists’ programme 2018/2019 in Nice, France. Last engagements include a role as Don Jose in Bizet/Brooks La Tragedie de Carmen production of England’s autumn 2018 tour by Pop-up Opera Company. Right after, he sung the role of Pinkerton in Puccini Madama Butterfly production with Diva Opera in June 2019. After he worked as one of the BAME fellowship members at the English National Opera (ENO) 2019/2021 season,he covered and performed the role of Don Jose (Carmen) at the Opera North in season 21/22. Upcoming engagements include covering Don Jose in Bizet Carmen with Longborough Festival opera and Cavaradossi in Puccini Tosca with Diva Opera for performances in France.
