A recipient of Glyndebourne Festival Opera’s John Christie Award, Dutch tenor Peter Gijsbertsen graduated with honors from Utrecht Conservatoire. Recent operatic repertoire include the roles of Alfredo in Verdi's La traviata (Scottish Opera), The Novice in Britten's Billy Budd (Bolshoi Theatre, Glyndebourne and BAM), the tenor solo in The Diary of One Who Disappeared by Janáček (Opéra de Lyon/Muziektheater Transparent) and Acis in Handel's Acis and Galatea (Opéra de Fribourg). On the concert platform Peter has performed the solo parts in the St. Matthew Passion by Bach (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, released on DVD with Art House), Kammermusik 1958 by H.W. Henze (NDR Symfony orchestra Hamburg, released on CD with Wergo), Pulcinella by Stravinksy (Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra) and Vigilia by Rautavaara (Dutch Radio Choir). Peter has recorded multiple CDs with Belgian label Phaedra amongst which are full recitals of Strauss, Schubert and Schumann songs. Future engagements include Tamino in Mozart's Magic Flute (Scottish Opera, Opéra de Fribourg) as well as a recording of all the Duparc songs.
