Mathilda du Tillieul McNicol is a director working across Opera and Theatre throughout Europe. She was the Jette Parker Director for the Royal Opera in the 2022-23 season. She studied at the University of Manchester where she graduated with a first-class Music degree and was awarded the Hargreaves composition prize and the academic achievement prize.
Directing credits include Antonio (Neue Oper Fribourg), Arminio (The Royal Opera), La bohème (Nevill Holt Opera), Panic (Montpellier Opera), the JPAP 20th Anniversary Summer Celebration with Antonio Pappano (ROH main stage), and Arianna a Naxos (ROH). Mathilda was on a new work residency with Montpellier Opera and developed two new chamber works with composers, and she also trained with the Young Vic Springboard and Satellite programmes.
Mathilda was formerly the Assistant Producer for the Linbury Theatre.
Assistant directing work includes Richard Jones’ The Rhinegold and The Valkyrie (ENO); Alcina, La clemenza di Tito, Frankenstein!! (ROH); Rumpelstiltskin (Ballet Boyz); Oliver Mears’ Rigoletto and Jephtha, Damiano Michialetto’s Carmen, David McVicar’s Le nozze di Figaro (ROH). She was also assistant director for Jamie Mantons’ La traviata (Nevill Holt Opera), The Cunning Little Vixen (ENO), John Fulljames’ Nixon in China (Scottish Opera), and Tim Carrolls’ Rigoletto and Die Zauberflote (Verbier Festival).
