Designer

Madeleine trained in Theatre Design at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design. Opera North's production of Don Giovanni, for which Madeleine designed the sets and costumes, won the Best Opera Award at the 2013 Manchester Theatre Awards; and together with director Orpha Phelan, Madeleine won Denmark's prestigious Reumert Award for Best Opera Production 2016 with Powder Her Face.

Further recent designs include: set design for Semiramide (Opéra national de Lorraine); set and costume for Albert Herring (Maggio Musicale, Florence); set and costume for Roberto Devereux (Teatro Real Madrid); costume design for Andrea Chenier (Staatstheater Braunschweig, Germany); set and costume design for Opera Glare (Linbury Studio, ROH Covent Garden); set and costume design for La traviata and Don Giovanni (Opera North); set and costume design for Donizetti’s three Tudor operas Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux (Welsh National Opera); set design for Oresteia (Bard Summerscape Festival, New York); set and costume for Così fan tutte (Opera Touring Company, Dublin); set and costume design for Turandot (Staatstheater Augsburg's Open Air Arena, Germany); set and costume design for La Cenerentola (Malmö Opera, Sweden); and set and costume design for Pelléas et Mélisande (Independent Opera at the Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler's Wells).
