Lydia Shariff

Mezzo-Soprano

Lydia Shariff is a British Mezzo-Soprano and recent graduate of the prestigious opera school at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Praised for her 'commanding' and 'luxurious' sound, Lydia performs a great variety of repertoire and is in demand as a charismatic performer of opera, song, and jazz. Lydia has been fortunate enough to receive significant operatic training in recent years from companies such as The Glyndebourne Academy and British Youth Opera. In masterclasses and projects, Lydia has worked with industry greats such as Roderick Williams OBE, Sir Thomas Allen, Susan Bullock and Eva-Maria Westbroek. In 2023, Lydia was a Britten Pears Young Artist and performed in the English Song concert in Snape Maltings. Lydia is also a former Serena Fenwick artist with British Youth Opera, and has had her studies kindly sponsored as a Sybil Tutton award holder with Help Musicians, and also as a bursary recipient from the International Opera Awards Foundation. Past operatic roles include: Juno Agrippina (Hampstead Garden Opera), First Norn Götterdämmerung (Longborough Festival Opera - Cover), Mrs Herring Albert Herring (Clonter Opera Company), Mrs Peachum The Beggar’s Opera. In opera scenes at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Lydia has performed the following roles: Baba the Turk The Rake’s Progress, Carmen Carmen, Lucretia The Rape of Lucretia, Federica Luisa Miller, Madame de Croissy Dialogues des Carmélites, Ursule Béatrice et Bénédict, Madame de la Haltière Cendrillon, Third Lady The Magic Flute.
