Joseph Doody studied at Edinburgh University, the Royal College of Music, and the National Opera Studio. His many recent appearances at home and abroad include Aufidio Lucio Silla (Salzburg Landestheater), Ramiro La Cenerentola (English Touring Opera), Mordecai Esther (Solomon’s Knot; Halle Handel Festival, Wigmore Hall), Count Almaviva Il barbiere di Siviglia (CCO; Wilton’s Music Hall), Alessandro Il re pastore and Italian Tenor/Guglielmo Viva la Diva (Buxton Festival), Count Errico La vera constanza (NCO; Oxford), Toby Robinson Crusoe (West Green House Opera) and Mosquito The Cunning Little Vixen (Welsh National Opera). Joseph has also featured as Captain Trevor in a new critically-acclaimed and Gramophone Awardsnominated recording of C.V. Stanford’s Shamus O’Brien (Retrospect Opera); his other operatic roles include Jupiter Semele, Pylade Iphigénie en Tauride, Leicester Maria Stuarda and Tom Rakewell The Rake’s Progress. In concert, he appears regularly in repertoire from Bach to Orff, also recently performing in a new commission about the relationship between Britten and Pears for the Royal Opera House. His current and future plans include a return to English Touring Opera as Tsar Berendey in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden and his debut for English National Opera as Nemorino L’elisir d’amore. This is his Longborough Festival Opera debut.
