Joseph Doody

Joseph Doody studied at Edinburgh University, the Royal College of Music, and the National Opera Studio. His recent appearances at home and abroad include Nemorino/L’elisir d’amore (ENO), Audifio/Lucio Silla (Salzburg Landestheater), Ramiro/La Cenerentola and Tsar Berendey/The Snow Maiden (both for English Touring Opera), Mordecai/Esther (Solomon’s Knot; Halle Handel Festival, Wigmore Hall), Count Almaviva/Il barbiere di Siviglia (CCO at Wilton’s Music Hall), Alessandro/Il re pastore (Buxton Festival), Count Errico/La vera constanza (NCO; Oxford), Toby/Robinson Crusoe (West Green House Opera) and Mosquito/The Cunning Little Vixen (WNO). 

Joseph has also featured as Captain Trevor in a Gramophone Awards-nominated recording of Stanford’s Shamus O’Brien (Retrospect Opera). His other operatic roles include Jupiter/Semele, Pylade/Iphigénie en Tauride, Leicester/Maria Stuarda and Tom Rakewell/The Rake’s Progress. 

In concert, he appears regularly in repertoire from Bach to Orff, also recently performing in a new commission about the relationship between Britten and Pears for the Royal Opera House.

His future plans include the title role Orpheus in the Underworld (IF Opera) and his Canadian debut for the Opéra de Québec as Ramiro/La Cenerentola.
