Hrólfur Sæmundsson was born in 1978 in Iceland. He completed his Master´s degree at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Prior to that, he obtained the Advanced Certificate of the Royal Schools of Music in Reykjavik, Iceland. He has sung in France, Norway, Sweden, USA and Germany as well as in his home country, Iceland. In 2005 he was selected Singer ofthe Year by the Wagner Society. He has worked mainly in Germany since 2009 and is currently employed by the Opera in Aachen.
His roles include: Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen, Don Pizarro in Beethoven’s Fidelio, Pelleas (Debussy’s Pelleas et Mélisande), The Father (Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel), Nerone (Monteverdi’s L´incoronazione di Poppea), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), The Count (Le Nozze di Figaro), Sharpless (Madam Butterfly), Schaunard (La Boheme), Aeneas (Dido & Aeneas), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Figaro (The Barber of Seville), Eisenstein and Falke (Die Fledermaus), Onegin (Eugene Onegin), Orlik (Mazeppa), Ford (Falstaff), Paolo (Simon Boccanegra), Rodrigo (Don Carlo), Kurnewal (Tristan und Isolde), Beckmesser (Meistersinger), and Kaspar (Der Freischütz)
