Claire Egan

Soprano

Claire Egan was born in Gisborne, New Zealand. She trained at The Cardiff International Academy of Voice under Dennis O’Neill, and as an English National Opera, Opera Works Artist. 

Recent operatic highlights include cover Violetta and performance nurse/La traviata (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Paris - prod. Deborah Warner); Waldvogel/Siegfried (Mastersingers Young Artist, London); Cordelia/Lear (Hungarian State Opera); Ariel - sung voice, Der Sturm (Salzburg Festival); and The Babysitter/Between Worlds (English National Opera).

For smaller UK companies Claire has performed the roles of Gilda/Rigoletto; Gretel/Hansel & Gretel; Musetta/La bohème; Donna Anna/Don Giovanni; Pamina/Die Zauberflöte and Konstanze/Die Entführung aus dem Serail

Claire was a Solti-Te Kanawa scholar; a Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation grant recipient; and winner of the Dame Joan Sutherland Encouragement Award in Australia. Claire began training as a classical singer in her mid-twenties after being discovered on the ABC television show Operatunity Oz - before this she worked as a guitar maker and professional photographer. Claire currently studies in London with Tony Legge.
