Cara McHardy

Soprano

Cara studied at Guildhall and Conservatoire de Paris. She covered Ortlinde at the Royal Opera House in their 2018 Ring cycle and performed as Brünnhilde for the ROH Insight, The Music Of The Ring.

For The London Opera Company, Cara sang the roles of Brünnhilde in Die Walküre at St John’s Smith Square in November 2023 and Brunnhilde in Siegfried, a role she will reprise in November 2024. She will sing Brünnhilde/Götterdämmerung in 2025. She also sang Isolde in Tristan und Isolde at St John’s Smith Square in 2022.

She covered Eva in ENO’s The Mastersingers of Nuremberg, Mad Woman in the UK premiere of Weinberg’s The Passenger, Austrian Woman in The Death Of Klinghoffer and Helmwige, Ortlinde and Gerhilde for Opera North’s Ring cycle.

Cara has sung the roles of Gutrune and Helmwige and covered Brünnhilde for Saffron Opera’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. Cara sang the role of Sieglinde for New Palace Opera. For Edinburgh Opera Players, Cara sang the role of Chrysothemis in Elektra, Elisabeth in Tannhäuser and Die Kaiserin in Die Frau ohne Schatten. 

Other performances include title roles in Paer’s Leonora at St John’s Smith Square; English Touring Opera’s Norma, Kentish Opera’s Tosca; Aida and Abigaille in Nabucco; Dorset Opera’s Turandot (cover); and Lady Macbeth/Macbeth and Desdemona/Otello for Guildford Opera.

Cara recorded and performed with legendary pop group Squeeze on the BBC and at the Royal Albert Hall.
