Cara McHardy


Cara studied at Guildhall and the Conservatoire de Paris. She covered the role of Ortlinde at the Royal Opera House in their 2018 Ring cycle and performed Brünnhilde excerpts for the ROH Insight, The Music Of The Ring.

She covered Eva in English National Opera’s The Mastersingers of Nuremburg, Mad Woman in the UK premiere of Weinberg’s The Passenger and Austrian Woman in The Death Of Klinghoffer. For Opera North’s Ring cycle Cara covered Helmwige, Ortlinde and Gerhilde. Other performances include Isolde/Tristan Und Isolde for Bart’s Orchestra London and Sieglinde and Helmwige/Die Walküre for New Palace Opera and Fulham Opera.

Cara performed the role of Gutrune and Helmwige and covered Brunnhilde for Saffron Opera’s Der Ring des Nibelungen.

For Edinburgh Opera Players, Cara sang the roles of Chrysothemis, Electra, Elisabeth, Tannhäuser and Die Kaiserin, Die Frau Ohne Schatten.

Other performances include title roles in Paer’s Leonora at St John’s, Smith Square; English Touring Opera’s Norma (cover)and Tosca; Kentish Opera’s Aida; Dorset Opera’s Turandot (cover) as well as Abigaille/Nabucco, Lady Macbeth/Macbeth for Whitehorse Opera.

Cara recorded a single with critically acclaimed pop group Squeeze and performed with the band at the Royal Albert Hall and on BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans Breakfast Show
