Avner Dorman (he/him/his) writes music of intricate craftsmanship and rigorous technique, expressed with a soulful and singular voice. A native of Israel now living in the United States, Dorman draws on diverse cultural and historical influences, creating emotionally impactful music while exploring new territories. His compositions feature an exciting rhythmic vocabulary and unique timbres in orchestral, chamber, and solo settings, with many becoming staples in the repertoire.  

Dorman's works are championed by leading conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, and Andris Nelsons, and renowned soloists including Pinchas Zukerman, Gil Shaham, and Hilary Hahn. His music has been commissioned and performed by major orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, and Leipzig Gewandhaus, as well as prominent opera houses across Europe.  

Dorman has received numerous honors, including the 2018 Azrieli Prize for Jewish Music. His opera, *Wahnfried*, was a finalist for the International Opera Awards. At 25, he became the youngest composer to win Israel's Prime Minister’s Award. A former student of John Corigliano and Josef Bardanashvilli, Dorman holds a doctorate from the Juilliard School and is Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Gettysburg College’s Sunderman Conservatory of Music.
