Music Director
Closing date: Monday 24 November 2025 at midday
In 2027, we will celebrate thirty years of opera on the site where a chicken shed became an opera house. Our vision is to be recognised as a bold, audacious company essential to the UK’s cultural landscape, rooted in our community and environment, a place of apprenticeship for homegrown Wagnerian talent and the next generation of artists and audiences.
A vital part of this future is our search for our new Music Director.
The successful candidate will build on the strong foundations established over the 25-year tenure of Anthony Negus, who will become Conductor Laureate of LFO and Lifetime President of the Longborough Wagner Club. The selection process will be underpinned by LFO’s commitment to artistic excellence, innovation, and a deep appreciation of Wagner’s works.

Emerging Artist applications for Longborough’s 2026 season are now open.
If you would like to apply for any of these opportunities, please submit your application by Sunday 31 August 2025.
As part of the form, you will be asked to provide a link to a short recording of yourself. Please upload it to a platform that we can access such as Google Drive, YouTube, Soundcloud or similar. This can be video, or audio only, and it doesn't need to be a professional recording - on a phone is fine. This is an opportunity to show off and show us what you can do. If accompanied, we do not need more than a couple of bars of piano introduction.
If you are successfully shortlisted for an audition, you will be contacted by a member of the LFO team in early September. Auditions will take place in London in early October 2026.
Thank you for applying!
