This episode explores the new major opera Wahnfried: the birth of the Wagner cult, with the opera's composer Avner Dorman, the 2025 production's director and festival Artistic Director Polly Graham, and conductor Justin Brown (Die tote Stadt 2022) who commissioned and gave the world premiere of the opera.
With musical extracts from soprano Susan Bullock CBE, and baritone Oskar McCarthy, who will perform in the 2025 production - with repetiteur Thomas Ang, and chaired by writer and broadcaster Dr Flora Willson.
Wahnfried: the birth of the Wagner cult is a major new opera by Avner Dorman, with a libretto by acclaimed playwrights Lutz Hübner and Sarah Nemitz. It will receive its UK premiere at Longborough in 2025.
