Job purpose
We are seeking to recruit 2x Technicians for the venue and season set up, production installations/strikes, show running and day to day maintenance of Longborough’s 2025 Opera Season, which includes four mid to large-scale operatic productions.
The right candidate would be enthusiastic, a team player, and a keen technical problem solver.

Principal Accountabilities:
The Technician will:
- carry out such tasks across all technical departments under the guidance of the Senior Technician’s and/or Production Manager;
- collaborate with the Production Carpenter and Production Electrician to achieve the goals laid out by the Designers & Production Manager;
- create and maintain all paperwork necessary for clear communication and the smooth running of performances;
- assist with the rigging, lighting, sound and communications installation;
- fulfil any performance related role across technical departments as the demands of the production may require, including operating lighting consoles for performance (ETC EOS consoles), and stage plots, including duty technician duties.
- maintain key production elements throughout the run;
- be a designated first aider for the backstage area – training will be provided
- abide by the rules of the Manager/venue at which the Manager is rehearsing or performing, as laid out in the relevant Health & Safety policies and procedures and Equal Opportunities policies.
Person specification
Skills and Experience:
- Experience of working in a theatre technical environment, specifically venue operation.
- Be a multiskilled technician, with demonstrable experience at least 2 of the following disciplines: lighting, video, sound, stage.
- Ability to work well under pressure, with a calm and positive mindset.
- Ability to think logically, problem-solve and troubleshoot technical issues and systems, working collaboratively with the wider technical team when required
- Work well within a team as well as independently
- A good sense of humour!
- Experience working at height - MEWP experience IPAF licence desirable, but training will be given
Further requirements and information
- The successful candidate will be able to commit to punctuality throughout the period of employment bearing in mind that Longborough Festival Opera is not accessible by public transport.
- Local accommodation during the season will be provided if required, along with a meal allowance for days worked on site and travel to and from Longborough at the start and end of the season.
- The successful candidate must be able to fulfil the physical demands of the post, including (but not restricted to) working at height, in confined spaces, outdoors and in high noise environments.
- Regular evening and weekend working is required during the season, and some overnight working to facilitate production turnarounds.
