We're very happy to announce that The Wagner Society committee has unanimously agreed to present the 'Sir Reginald Goodall Memorial Award' to Anthony Negus, one of the most respected and popular members of the Wagner community in the UK.

This is the first time the Award has been presented since 2009, when the recipient was Sir Antonio Pappano. It is presented to individuals or theatre groups considered by the Society’s Committee to have been of outstanding service to Wagner and his music. Earlier recipients of the award include Sir Reginald Goodall CBE himself, Dame Gwyneth Jones, Dame Anne Evans, Keith Warner, Sir John Tomlinson, Bernard Haitink CH KBE, Graham Clark, Wolfgang Wagner, Plácido Domingo, and David Syrus.

The award will be presented at the Society’s dinner at the Royal Over-Seas League in London on Friday 24th March.

Richard Miles, Chairman of The Wagner Society, said: "It is truly a pleasure to have this opportunity to recognise Anthony's achievements and thank him for his contribution to the musical life of this country."

Anthony has long been at the heart of Longborough's Wagner programme. For 2017 he conducts Mozart's The Magic Flute, and Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, a revival of the 2015 production.

Longborough's music director Anthony Negus is a Wagnerian maestro of a calibre that should rightfully be heard and lauded at the likes of Covent Garden and Bayreuth. Meanwhile, it is Longborough's wisdom and good fortune to have him
