L’Orfeo Circle: taking you behind the scenes at Longborough

Monteverdi's poignant and revolutionary take on the Orpheus legend is often considered the first great operatic masterpiece.

This is the first production of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo ever performed at Longborough.

Audiences will be transported into the beautiful music, performed on period instruments and in the original language, with players and singers interacting to create a production exclusive to our stage and theatre. We are delighted to welcome back Robert Howarth (Conductor) and Olivia Fuchs (Director). Robert worked alongside La Serenissima for our 2021 production of Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria. Olivia directed our highly acclaimed production of The Cunning Little Vixen in 2021.

As we celebrate L’Orfeo, this seminal opera, we seek others who are delighted by this repertoire and who want to help us on our artistic journey, supporting artists and creating beautiful art that transports audiences and artists alike.

Our L'Orfeo Circle takes those with a passion for Monteverdi behind the scenes of our 2023 production. For a minimum donation of £500 you receive:

  • Opportunity to meet like-minded enthusiasts who share your love of Monteverdi's work
  • Invitation to the Sitzprobe (where orchestra and singers rehearse together for the first time) on Tuesday 4 July in the Cotswolds and meet director Olivia Fuchs
  • Invitation to the Dress Rehearsal on Sunday 9 July
  • Your name on the L’Orfeo title page of the 2023 souvenir programme book
  • Production photograph
  • Invitation to the last-night party on Tuesday 18 July to mingle with the cast and share in celebrations
  • The joy of being up close to a remarkable production
